What is a no-spend challenge?

A no-spend challenge is where you challenge yourself to not spend any money, outside of essential bills and expenses, for a set period of time. The goal is usually to save money but also become more mindful of your spending habits.

Types of no-spend challenges templates

  • 30 day no-spend challenge: One of the most popular versions is going 30 full days without any unnecessary purchases. This is a good initial timeframe to get used to restricting your spending.

  • 31 day no-spend challenge: Similar to 30 days but extends it one more day. Some people prefer the 31 day format as it matches up with the calendar months.

How to start your no-spend challenge

First, pick how long you want to do it - 30 or 31 days is typical. Then sit down and figure out your essential bills that still need to be paid like rent, utilities, groceries. Make a list of any planned expenses too. Next, cancel all non-essential memberships or subscriptions for the challenge period. On day 1, don't spend any money besides what's on your approved list. Try to keep yourself busy on the weekends when browsing stores is tempting. Stick with it for the whole time and see how much you can save with the help of our saving tracker!
